Stern Math Workshops for Summer 2012: The Structural Arithmetic Program at the Parkside School
This program encourages children at the beginning stages of math education:
- to discover mathematical concepts with manipulatives
- to develop computational facility
- to enhance problem solving abilities
The Structural Arithmetic Program, developed by Catherine Stern, Margaret Stern and Toni Gould for over six decades, is a renowned standard for effective mathematics instruction. It equips teachers with a multisensory, structured, systematic and thorough program that gives children a strong foundation for all math skills. It has been extremely successful when used to help students learning difficulties, children with language processing difficulties and children whose first language is not English.
This workshop series includes demonstrations of the Structural Arithmetic materials and activities including games, videotape viewing and hands-on practice. Because Parkside offers these workshops only one time during the year, and enrollment in each session is limited to 20 attendees, we urge early registration.
Location of all Workshops:
The Parkside School, 48 West 74th Street, New York, NY, 10023. View map and directions.
