Position Overview

The Customer Service and Sales Support Associate will help ensure that customers and prospective customers receive timely, knowledgeable, and welcoming support.

The person in this role will begin by learning Stern Math products, services, and instructional methods. Initial priorities will include responding to customer inquiries, supporting workshops, maintaining prospective-customer records, managing social media, and assisting with sales follow-up.

Training, product guidance, outreach materials, and ongoing support will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and respond to customer emails and voicemails each business day
  • Provide thoughtful and friendly customer service
  • Answer introductory questions about Stern Math products, and services, and assist customers through the sales process. Direct complex questions to the appropriate person
  • Follow up with customers and prospective customers using company-provided guidance
  • Schedule, help craft, and publish Stern Math social-media content approximately twice per month
  • Meet monthly with the CEO and bookkeeper
  • Complete other mutually agreed responsibilities related to customer service and sales support

Required Qualifications

  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills
  • Ability to learn new products, processes, and technology
  • Ability to work independently while asking for guidance when needed
  • Comfort using email, shared documents, spreadsheets, video conferencing, and web-based systems
  • Interest in education, hands-on learning, or mathematics

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with teachers, families, schools, tutors, therapists, or educational organizations
  • Experience with Stern Math or other hands-on mathematics materials
  • Experience in customer service, administrative support, sales support, or educator outreach
  • Familiarity with maintaining customer or prospective-customer records
  • Familiarity with social-media publishing
Who might be a good fitThis may be a particularly good fit for someone who has worked with teachers, families, schools, tutors, therapists, or educational organizations. Direct Stern Math experience is helpful but is not required. We are willing to train the right person.

Work Arrangement

  • Fully remote
  • Approximately 10 hours per week
  • Independent contractor position
  • Regular availability during Eastern Time business hours is preferred
  • Applicants must be located in the United States

Compensation and Growth Opportunities

Compensation is $30 per hour to start, with a formal review after approximately three months.

Stern Math intends this role to grow. As the associate gains experience, the role may expand to include greater responsibility for outreach, customer relationships, and independently developing sales opportunities. Growth opportunities may include:

  • Increased hourly compensation and additional weekly hours
  • Greater responsibility for managing customer relationships
  • Periodic performance-based bonuses recognizing individual contribution and Stern Math's overall success
  • A broader role within Stern Math as the business grows

Increases in hours, compensation, responsibility, or bonuses will reflect performance, business needs, and the evolving scope of the position.
